Chicks in Reception Class

It's been an egg-citing week in Reception...nine eggs hatched, resulting in some extremely cute chicks! The eggs came from Bill Quay Farm, and the chicks (a rare breed) will be with us until the beginning of next week. They've fascinated the children, and some of them have drawn some great pictures.

SATs 2008

Year 6 have worked extremely hard this week during their SATs tests - well done to you all! A special mention must go to Jack M, who persevered despite breaking his arm only two weeks ago, and to Amy, who had to struggle on whilst suffering from a virus. We look forward to the SATs results in July.
Harriet made a 'pinata' to celebrate the end of SATs, and the children thoroughly enjoyed whacking it until all of the sweets fell out!

Action Aid Visitor

On Wednesday 7th May Mr John Smith from Action Aid visited Year 4 to teach us about India and the village of Chembakolli which we are studying in Geography. We learnt that Action Aid is helping the Adivasi (the people who live in Chembakolli) to assert their right to the land and organise themselves to improve the facilities and living standards in the village. We also found out about the work, houses, schools, food, clothing and customs of the Adivasi people.

An ice-cream seller visits the village on a bicycle.

Fab Flourney

Fab Flourney visited school today and officially opened the new outdoor play area on a beautiful sunny morning. He was happy to answer the children's questions, before proudly cutting the yellow ribbon while the whole school watched.

Mosque visit

On 29th April Year 4 visited the Mosque at Newcastle University. We learnt many interesting things about Muslims and how they pray. We watched people praying and we were shown around the Prayer Hall with its patterned carpet designed to help people pray in neat rows and the Mihrab arch which shows the direction of Mecca.
