Year 4 Autumn Topics

In History, the children will be looking at different aspects of World War 2, including what it was like for children during the Second World War, the blitz and rationing. They will also look at the treatment of Jewish people during the war by learning about the experiences of Anne Frank.

Cross curricular links will be made with Geography and Literacy and there will be the opportunity to handle artefacts loaned from the Discovery Museum. In our first Science unit Moving and Growing, children will be learning about how the skeleton is related to movement and support in humans. They will also compare human bones and skeletons with those of other animals. In our Habitats unit, children will develop their understanding of the concept of a habitat and they will learn about how animals depend on plants or other animals which eat plants for food. This term in French the children consolidate and build on what they have learnt in Year 3. They will learn how to describe the weather, use the French alphabet to spell words and expand their vocabulary through listening to and reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
