Stella Artois gets wet!
During our Kensuke’s Kingdom topic we made some mini shelters for Stella, the main character’s dog, who was stranded on a desert island with him. We used natural materials and tried to make the shelters waterproof. We learned lots about shelter building and knot tying from survival guru Ray Mears. However, Stella did get wet!

In the Autumn term Year 6 studied the Michael Morpurgo book “Kensuke’s Kingdom”. We did lots of writing, mapwork and art from this book. In one of the chapters, Kensuke, a Japanese war veteran, teaches Michael, the main character, to paint using a style called Sumi e. We went to the Oriental Museum in Durham to experience Japanese artwork and try Sumi e for ourselves....

On 25th January Year 6 had a fantastic day at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth. We went the the aquarium to support our work on the Blue Planet so that we could choose a marine animal and become an expert! We met seals, otters, sharks and rays, to name but a few.
