Welcome back to a new and busy term in Year 1.
Throughout this term the children will be looking at a range of topics including eat more fruit and veg in D.T, toys in history, sculpture in art, our local environment in geography and sound and hearing in science.
The children will also have the opportunity to visit the CLC centre to gain experience with a range of computer programmes.
This term Year 1 have been enjoying the story of Handa's surprise which they are beginning to use as inspiration to create animal dances in PE with Mrs Saint.

This is just a few lines to welcome you all to Year 1. As the term is now up and running I thought I would take the opportunity to familiarise you with some of the topics your child will be studying this term. In science they will be looking at the topic 'Ourselves' which links nicely to the art topic of self portraits. Through history and design and technology the children will be looking at houses and homes this will include a class trip to Cragside where the children will be given the opportunity to handle house hold objects from the past. I am sure as the term progresses the children will fill you in on their daily adventures.

After settling well into their new year group the children in year 1 have been working hard. This included designing and making houses for the 3 Little Pigs.

As part of the 'houses' and 'homes' topic year 1 made a visit to Cragside.
They thoroughly enjoyed taking a tour of the house and looking closely at the artefacts.
Although the weather was damp the children had a great day!!!

For the next 7 weeks Miss Russell will be working alongside Mrs Neale in Year 1. Miss Russell is currently completing her final placement for her primary PGCE. I'm sure the children will enjoy all of the fun and interesting activities she has planned!!!

In numeracy Year 1 have been very busy exploring 2d and 3d shape. As well as naming and describing the shapes they have been out and about with Mrs Saint spotting shapes in the school environment. Back in the classroom they have spent time designing and building a shape city with 3d blocks and drawing buildings using the 2d shapes.

Mrs Saint is a Teaching Assistant at our school.
She is also a school governor.

Mrs Neale teaches Class One.

In Year 1 this term we will be looking at the topic of ourselves and our home. In History we will be examining artefacts that were used to support chores in years gone by.
