In Year 2 we have just started to study the Great Fire of London and we will also create some art work linked to this. In Science we have found out about using electricity and will also investigate forces and movements. Throughout our work in ICT we will look at how we can use computers to find information and controlling a floor turtle!
In March Year 2 will visit the CLC centre to experience new ICT programmes.
Father John will be coming into Year 2 to talk about the different clothing worn in the church throught out the year.

After a successful start to the year we have all settled into the daily routines of our new year group. This will be a busy term and the children will have fun studying the range of topics which lie ahead. These topics will include health and growth and grouping and changing materials in science. As well as studying the life of Florence Nightingale in history. Through art the children will have the opportunity to explore and sketch a range of buildings and make vehicles in design and technology.
I also hope to arrange a trip this term the details of which will follow.

Miss Hampton

Year 2 compared Newcastle with the Isle of Coll. We looked at transport on the island and their school.

Year 2 are finding out why we wear poppies this time of the year. The children have been sharing photographs of family members who have been involved in different wars. We will be visitng the war memorial in Whickham on Thursday.

She is also a school governor.

As part of our History topic on Remembrance Sunday, Year 2 had a visit from Mr. Wallis. He talked about his experiences during World War 2. He was only 7 years old at the time but he could remember watching dog fights in the sky! We enjoyed listening to his stories.

Year 2 visited the CLC centre in November. They had to create a news report about events at school. Their voices were recorded onto the computer. Jamie has his head phones ready to say his part.

Mrs Saint is a Teaching Assistant at our school.
She is also a school governor.

Mrs Stapleton, better known as Aunty Sue, is a Teaching Assistant at our school.

In year 2 this term we are looking at ways of being healthy for our science topic. We are also looking at Island homes for our geography topic focusing on Katie Morag and the Isle of Struay. In Religious Education we are looking at ‘Creation’ and Harvest.
