We've been enjoying making strong bridges from a single piece of A4 paper, researching famous bridges from around the world and crossing a 'river' using planks, crates and blocks! Well done to the 'Secret Bridge Builders' team, captained by Harvey A, who managed to transfer all 10 team members safely across their bridge in the quickest times.

Last Friday Year 3 set for a walk around Whickham to find out what their local area used to be like. We started off at Whickham park and had our packed lunch, the we went to look at the Old Windmill, the Council Offices, St. MAry's Church, the Rectory, Park Cottage, the Old Parochial School and Lang Jack's monument. We ended our walk at Whickham library where we looked at old maps and photographs.
We had a lovely day and learnt alot about our local area.
On Friday Year 3 brought their history to life and dressed up in togas for a Roman feast. They have spent the last 4 weeks designing sandwiches which they made to serve at the Roman feast and Amelia's Grandad very kindly came in and made fresh pizzas for us!!!! They were very yummy! The children entertained us with dancing, singing, joke telling, hula-hooping and guitar playing. It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to everyone who came and supported us.
Last week in Year 3 we were thinking about bonfire night and fireworks. We collected lots of interesting adjectives and produced some fantastic firework shape poems.

Year 3 had a great time at their Roman Feast on Friday November 23rd. They prepared all the food, baking oatmeal biscuits and honey cakes during the week leading up to the feast day. They organised their own group entertainments, including sword fighting, Irish dancing, singing, gymnastics and joke telling. They invited parents and grandparents - some came along as guests and others volunteered to act as slaves for the day. This meant coming to the feast dressed in Roman togas and serving the food and drink to the Roman citizens. We even had two pre-school slaves who joined in the festivities. Everyone in Year 3 was dressed as a Roman citizen and they processed through the hall in style to show off their wonderful costumes. It was an excellent afternoon - everyone had lots of fun and it brought history to life in a very real way.
This term Year 3 will be studying ‘teeth and Eating’ in science – this will include a visit to the class by a local dentist. They will also be studying and testing out ‘Characteristics of Materials’.
