At Whickham Parochial Church of England Primary School, our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision, "Let Your Light Shine" (Matthew 5:16). We believe every child is uniquely gifted and should be supported to flourish academically, socially, spiritually and emotionally. Through a broad, ambitious and inclusive curriculum, we nurture confident and aspirational individuals, people of faith, character and integrity, active members of their community, and responsible global citizens.
Our curriculum is shaped by four key drivers:
- Flourishing and Aspiration - Letting our Light Shine
- Faith and Character - Living our values
- Community and Belonging - At the heart of our Community
- Global Responsibility and Stewardship - Making a difference in the world
These drivers provide a clear thread that runs through every aspect of school life, ensuring that learning is meaningful, relevant and connected to the world around our pupils. As children move from Reception to Year 6, they develop increasing independence, resilience, leadership and responsibility, enabling them to make positive contributions to their school, their community and society beyond.
We want our children to achieve highly, think deeply and develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to thrive in modern Britain. Alongside academic success, we seek to foster kindness, respect, compassion and a strong moral purpose, underpinned by our Christian values. By the time they leave Whickham Parochial, pupils are equipped not only for the next stage of their education, but also to lead lives of purpose, service and positive impact
Our Curriculum Journey
We want every child to shine throughout their journey at Parochial, recognising their unique gifts and the difference they can make in the world. We nurture children to shine for themselves, for their families, for their communities and for the wider world, growing into confident, compassionate and responsible citizens who use their talents to positively influence others.
From their first days in Reception and throughout Key Stage 1, children begin to discover the unique gifts and talents that make them who they are. Through nurturing relationships, engaging learning experiences and our Christian vision of "Let Your Light Shine", we help every child to find their light, build confidence and develop a love of learning.
As children move into Lower Key Stage 2, they continue developing their light by growing in confidence, independence and responsibility. Through an ambitious curriculum and a wide range of opportunities, pupils deepen their knowledge, discover new strengths and learn how their unique gifts can make a positive difference to others. Our children are encouraged to shine in their learning, relationships and contribution to school and community life.

As children move into Upper Key Stage 2, they are encouraged to share their light with others through leadership, service and positive action. Building on the confidence, knowledge and character they have developed throughout their time at Parochial, pupils become role models for younger children and active contributors to their community. They learn how their unique gifts can inspire, support and make a difference to the lives of others, preparing them to shine brightly as they move on to the next stage of their journey.
